Born in San Marcos, Texas, spring of 1959 to Elder Hugh and Sister Nettie (Fannin) Montgomery. I was baptized at the age of fourteen by my father at the Littlevine Primitive Baptist Church in Austin, Texas.
In my late teens, my interest in the church increased as I studied, attended Bible discussions, and asked questions to further my learning. Soon I was asked to introduce services which I did with much fear and trembling. Ministers influential in my development included my father, Jesse Bass, Dickie Daniels, Bill Walden, Weldon Walker, J. P. Dale, Clifford Gowens, and J. A. Rowell.
My older brother Mike was ordained in 1983 after answering the Lord’s calling. I was content to quietly continue my studies unnoticed. I never considered being a preacher due to my shy nature however I eventually felt God’s calling, so I began to speak more frequently.
In 1984, during a meeting at Bethel Church in McMahan, Texas, Elder Dickie Daniels put his Bible in my lap and told me to go into the stand. This was my first frightening experience in front of a large gathering, thankfully, the Lord was very good to me that night. I will never forget how I felt the Spirit using me to preach the Word that night.
In October 1986, I was ordained to the ministry at Littlevine Church. My father and Elder Bill Walden delivered the charge, Elder Mike Montgomery offered the prayer, and Elder J. P. Dale interrogated. Presbytery Elders included: Hugh Montgomery, Mike Montgomery, Bill Walden, J. A. Rowell, Clifford Gowens, Steve Wilkinson, Dickie Daniels, J. P. Dale, Clyde Farmer, George Johnson, Weldon Walker, Dale Turner, Boyd Chambers, Larry Housenfluke, and G. H. Crain.
I am married to the former Leslye Kreie, who is one of the greatest blessings in my life. Like me, she is the child and grandchild of a minister, she is my most dependable help in the ministry, outside of the Holy Spirit. As of this writing, I have served churches in Harlingen, San Antonio, Fredericksburg, and La Vernia, all in the State of Texas.
